Handcrafted meads made from our own Wildflower Honey.
We help adventurous connoisseurs rediscover an ancient libation with hand crafted meads made from our own Wildflower Honey. Our carefully tended beehives are put out to forage the wild flowers in hills behind Sooke for the purest honey.
Meadmaker and Beekeeper Bob Liptrot has been keeping bees and making mead for over 40 years. We are Western Canada's first Meadery and have won several international awards for our Meads. Tugwell Meads are crafted from fruits that are grown on our own farm without the use of chemicals or pesticides.
I quite enjoyed this bottle paired with all sorts of things. I had it with Asian foods, fish, red meat, chicken and even as a side to salads and burgers. This mead pairs wonderfully with so many things and has a very unique flavor to it. It has a dry nutty flavor to it which goes great with many meals.
I quite enjoy this as a dessert drink to accompany with other sweets or to just enjoy as a dessert. It has a very smooth and sweet flavor that I was very pleasantly surprised by.
This mead is very rich in flavor and has a really nice dry flavor. I quite enjoyed this bottle and will be ordering again in the future!
Love this take on Mead - it is an excellent post-dinner sipper!
Absolutely recommend! I truly enjoyed the tasting, and the grounds are gorgeous even in late August. Recommendations were spot-on and we took home 3 bottles of the sweeter port/harvest wine type meads. The Vintage Sac was a great pairing with the Strawberry Lemonade crumble from Shirley Delicious too!
Sweet and delicious
I have loved mead from the first time I tried it at a Medieval dinner in northern Scotland. So happy to be able to buy it on Vancouver Island!
My favourite is Wicked Mistress and Kilt Twister! And Solstice Metheglin. Actually I’ve never tasted one that I didn’t like!
Sweet, Honey, Floral, Fruity,Smooth, Nutty, Tropical, Layered.
Very nice place to come and taste the delicious mead.
Some of the best I've ever had
(Ended up buying 6 bottles afterwards)
The tasters are very smart and fun idea :)
Amazing honey mead ciders and gorgeous location make for a unique and enjoyable wine tasting adventure. Highly recommend!
Just bought Tugwell's mead at a wine store on Granville Island in Vancouver and it was the most delicious drink I've ever tasted! I thought it was wine until I did some research and realized that mead is an alcoholic drink made from fermented honey. So tasty and unique! I am now planning a trip to the meadery for this summer and will buy this mead by the case! Their website offers so many flavors as well. Looking forward to trying them all! :)
Can not say enough about this place. I did not know mead was wine made of honey. SO Good! Every type they had is lovely. The owners were so nice and informative. The place is beautiful and well kept with lots of animals and plants. They ship internationally and tasting fees go towards saving the bees!!
A great little gem of a place! It's unfortunate that we're currently under COVID restrictions, but our hostess behind the window was so polite and helpful in letting us taste a few samples that we walked away with way more product than we'd intended to buy. One of the bottles was opened IMMEDIATELY upon arriving home, and was thoroughly enjoyed.
This liquid candy dances across your tongue.
This is my favourite mead to accompany spicy Asian food and fish dishes because the off dry, no fruit flavour is the perfect compliment. The finish is so smooth thanks to Bob Liptrot’s mastery of mead making and aging in French oak barrels. This, tip of the hat, to ancient recipes of spices and ginger feels medicinal, as the Metheglin names implies, and, just plain enjoyable. Well worth adding to my table time and time again.
What is Mead?
Mead is a delicious alcoholic beverage made from honey. Arguably the world's oldest form of alcohol, mead has been produced and drunk by almost every culture in the world. It is an unbelievably versatile beverage, ranging from bone-dry and refreshing to rich and complex. From "traditional" meads that showcase unique honey varietals and local terroir to a range of styles that feature every kind of fruit, spice or experimental ingredient imaginable, mead is like no other beverage on earth.
